There are some things we buy that can be made so simply (and/or so much healthier!) for so much less money. Who knew? Here are some things to try:
Treats and Snacks
Chocolate Shell: Combine coconut oil, generous cocoa powder, honey to taste; pinch of salt, and dash of vanilla in a sauce pan. Warm to combine. Pour over ice cream and you've got a healthier, yummy magic shell.
Cocoa Dates: Dried dates, remove pit; fill in hole with cocoa nibs. Snack, without guilt.
Blueberry pancake syrup: Put maple syrup in saucepan (organic grade B ideal), add berries (frozen is fine; cherries or other flavors also yummy). Warm. Smash berries on side of pan if needed. Top your grilled goodness.
Rice cake snacks: Spread coconut oil on rice cake, spread almond butter, top with jam. Gluten free, healthy fats for all.
Banana Pancakes: Mash bananas, add 1-2 eggs per banana. I also like to add pinch of salt and vanilla. Optional flavors include peanut butter powder and cocoa powder. Cook in coconut oil.
Ranch dip and dressing: Mix 55% sour cream, 45% mayo, generous amount of garlic salt (we like Simply Organic) (enough garlic salt to not really taste the mayo). Stir. Kids will now eat veggies (you're welcome). Add milk to thin for dressing.
Hash browns: Grate potatoes, add seasoning, fry in pan or cook in waffle iron (grease with coconut oil). Better than any frozen concoction.
Mashed potatoes: Boil potatoes until soft, drain, hand mash or use mixer to blend, add dairy as desired (butter, sour cream, cream) and seasoning (salt, pepper, herbs as desired). No box needed.
